In this category, you will find various types of rebar - both black and stainless steel rebar - which are used for construction, among other things. The steel is often used together with concrete to reinforce foundations, walls, or a beam.

If you have searched for rebar, you have probably also encountered the terms "tentor steel", "rebar", and "reinforcing steel". In fact, tentor steel, rebar, and reinforcing steel are all the same type of steel.

Tentor steel is a popular steel product used for everything from casting concrete structures such as columns, pedestals, chimneys, walls, and floors.

Tentor steel can be recognized by the ribs that serve the purpose of ensuring a strong anchorage of the rebar in the concrete. Tentor steel is available in both regular black steel, which is the commonly used type of reinforcement for pouring, and in stainless steel, which will not rust when exposed to water and moisture, unlike black steel.

Here at Ahlsell, you will find a selection of the following rebar products:

Tentor steel comes in many dimensions, including 6 mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 14 mm, 16 mm, and up to 32 mm. We also offer a range of German ribbed steel BST500 -B500 - from 8 mm up to 20 mm. Pouring concrete with rebar
Rebar is primarily used for poured projects - such as posts or stairs. By embedding the rebar mesh in the concrete, the structure becomes stronger and prevents the concrete from cracking - both during construction and over time.

If you need rebar mesh for outdoor projects, you should pour a layer of concrete 5 cm above the rebar. This prevents rust from forming on the surface of the concrete layer.

What thickness should the rebar mesh be? It depends on what you are using it for, but as a rule of thumb, the rebar should be at least 6 mm thick if you are using it to pour floors. For a concrete countertop, you can get away with 4 mm, but the countertop will be much stronger if you use 6 mm rebar.

Using rebar mesh to improve facades
Rebar mesh is often used in connection with the renovation of facades. Here, you can insert the rebar mesh into the facade plaster. This of course makes the work more expensive, but the facade will - if the reinforcement is properly embedded - not crack and therefore last longer. When reinforcing a facade, thorough preparation is important. The old plaster must be cleaned, and any depressions should be filled to make the surface completely smooth and fine.

It is also important to use a special mortar mix that is suitable for this type of work. The mortar mix comes in powder form and should be mixed with water. You can use rebar mesh on both older masonry and fired bricks, but not on facades with large cracks. Small cracks in the masonry are not an issue.

Tentor steel for floor reinforcement
When laying concrete floors, it is quite common to lay tentor steel in the concrete to give the floor extra strength. On top of the concrete floor, you can lay a wooden or ceramic tile floor. If you choose to install floor heating, the heating pipes can be secured to the rebar mesh using, among other things, nylon strips.

Rebar is primarily used in basement floors to prevent cracking, but you can also use it when establishing floors in the rest of the home. When cutting tentor steel, you can do so with an angle grinder. However, a bolt cutter provides a more precise result and is quieter.
