Sustainability data made easy
We live in a time where the demand for sustainability data is increasing. At the same time, it is a complex area. Therefore, it is crucial that the development of sustainability data is accelerated to make it easier to overview, gather, and use data. At Ahlsell, we work every day to make it easier to be a professional. This also applies when it comes to sustainability data. Therefore, you will find all relevant information about the products in our range on Ahlsell.dk. We set high standards for the quality of our data and collaborate with our suppliers to provide the best data set, so you as a customer can make the choice that is right for your business.
Since 2022, we have displayed CO2e data on the products for which we have had documentation verified by an independent third party. By the end of 2024, we will enrich other products with the display of generic data. We currently consider the data set to be in beta version and are continuously working to strengthen the generic data set.
The method behind the numbers
In our webshop, the CO2e footprint from the production phase of the products is displayed. That is, A1-A3 from the product's life cycle assessment (LCA).
We distinguish between data from EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) and LCAs (Life Cycle Assessments) as well as generic data. If a product has an EPD/LCA, data from that is shown since it is specific and calculated based on the individual product's life phases. EPDs/LCAs are always verified by an independent third party.
The generic data are therefore only shown when there are no EPDs/LCAs for the products. In our method*, the generic data are covered by an industry average and cannot therefore be compared with EPD/LCA data. The generic data are also calculated in pools of products. Generic data used to calculate the climate impact come from well-known sources. The following sources have been used (in no particular order):
- Various well-known sources such as: Boverket, SYKE, and ÖKOBAUDAT
- GPC (generic product composition) – mainly based on market average values derived from EPDs, created by LCA specialists
- Proxy data based on LCAs
The generic values comply with ISO 14067. All generic values are presented in the same format as standard EN 15804:2012+A2:2019.
Who do we collaborate with to provide generic data?
At Ahlsell, we work closely with Carbonzero AB, which is behind the Prodikt platform, to ensure that we deliver the most up-to-date and accurate generic data about our products. Our partner collects and analyzes data from a wide range of sources, including manufacturers' own reports, scientific studies, and industry standards. This data is integrated into their advanced data platforms, which are continuously updated.
This integration supports our overall goal of promoting sustainability and responsible resource use in construction and industry.
Comparison and application of data
Products covered by an EPD/LCA or similar third-party verified documentation are, from a data perspective, preferable, but the generic data serves as a good supplement as long as there are no EPDs/LCAs for the products. However, it is important to emphasize that the generic data and data from EPDs/LCAs cannot be compared for products within the same category. Data from an EPD/LCA is static and prepared based on current data at the time of the EPD/LCA's creation. The generic data is dynamic and is continuously updated based on databases that are constantly being developed. Therefore, changes in the generic data may occur, as the model is under continuous development.
As more EPDs/LCAs or similar third-party verified documentation are prepared, the generic data will gradually be replaced by this specific data. We are actively working to obtain EPDs/LCAs and encourage our suppliers to prepare these – for the benefit of us all.
The CO2e data we provide are intended to facilitate a clearer and simpler overview of the estimated CO2e emissions. We accept no responsibility for the presented data and its subsequent use.
About data
On Ahlsell.dk, you may come across products with a negative CO2e emission. Negative CO2e values refer to situations where more greenhouse gas is removed from the atmosphere than is emitted. For example, when natural raw materials grow, they bind CO2e, which is included in an EPD/LCA.
For the products in our range where weight is not provided, we offer information on CO2e per kg of material. This allows for an understanding and consideration of the environmental impact, even when precise weight information is lacking.
With the solution, you can:
- View the CO2e value of the displayed products on ahlsell.dk and aggregated in the shopping cart
- Extract CO2e and environmental labels directly on ahlsell.dk
- Get a comprehensive overview from product to account level
Your sales consultant can assist you with cross-account extractions. Additionally, you can also obtain data on CO2e emissions for the distribution of your products through your sales consultant.

*The primary generic calculation method is a proxy method. Here, the system conducts an analysis based on product type using the input data that has been shared, and it builds the product using relevant and probable materials. Each material component has a specific impact factor, which together gives us the final generic climate impact for the product, including the impact from the production process.
For example: A glass wool insulation board with an aluminum foil layer is composed of 90% glass, 8% binder, and 2% aluminum. The impact for each material component, along with the added production impact, is multiplied by the weight of the product, and this will give us the generic climate impact of the product as a whole.
