Description
EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene rubber) is a synthetic rubber elastomer that can be crosslinked with sulfur or cured with peroxide. O-rings are the most common type of seal, they are inexpensive and simple, and they can be used everywhere in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Under suitable working conditions and with the right equipment, they can be used both statically and dynamically, but O-rings are not recommended for rotary movements. Compared to other sealing elements, component development is made easier with the use of O-rings, as they occupy less space and have double-acting sealing. Relevant precautions must be taken, the right materials must be selected, and there must be an appropriate surface quality on metal parts to achieve a good result with the use of O-rings. PRODUCT ADVANTAGES • Can be used both statically and dynamically • Both for piston rods and pistons • Several different compounds • Several different dimensions • Easy to install and remove • Excellent resistance to heat, water, ozone, aging and weathering • Good resistance to steam and polar substances APPLICATION Used in almost all industries, but especially in stationary machines and for static sealing, for example as flange or cover gaskets. EPDM O-rings are known to be suitable for hot water and brake fluids (based on glycol). EPDM O-rings must not be used with mineral oil, fats and fuels. EPDM has excellent insulating properties against electricity. Good mechanical properties and good resistance to ozone, aging and weathering.
