Description
EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene rubber) is a synthetic rubber elastomer that can be cross-linked with sulfur or cured with peroxide. O-rings are the most common sealing type, being cheap and simple, and can be used throughout hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Under suitable working conditions and with the right equipment, they can be used both statically and dynamically, but are not recommended for rotating movements. Compared to other sealing elements, component development is simpler with O-rings due to their smaller size and double-acting seal. Appropriate precautions, material selection, and suitable surface quality of metal parts are necessary for a good result when using O-rings. PRODUCT ADVANTAGES • Can be used both statically and dynamically • Suitable for piston rods and pistons • Available in different compounds • Available in different dimensions • Easy to install and remove • Very good resistance to heat, water, ozone, aging, and weathering • Good resistance to steam and polar substances APPLICATION Used in nearly all industries, particularly in stationary machines and for static sealing, such as flange or cover gaskets. EPDM O-rings are known for being suitable for hot water and brake fluids (glycol-based). EPDM O-rings should not be used with mineral oil, fats, and fuels. EPDM has excellent insulating properties against electricity. It also has good mechanical properties and good resistance to ozone, aging, and weathering.
