Here you will find our range of cold-formed profiles, characterized by a uniform material thickness. Note that the corners of cold-formed profiles are usually not straight but have a wider corner radius.
Cold-formed profiles are modern building materials with many advantages, primarily used for the quick and efficient construction of curtain walls and roof battens on buildings such as halls, industrial, warehouse, commercial, livestock, and production facilities. With optimal weight distribution and sectional geometry, our products have high strength and load-bearing capacity, and they are easy to use, making the construction process easier to complete.
Do you need steel profiles for your construction? Ahlsell is the supplier for you. We offer a wide range of different steel types in various steel qualities at low prices and high quality, making it easy for you to explore our selection.
You are of course always welcome to contact us via email or phone. We will help you order the products that fit perfectly for your project. You can also see our complete range of steel and metals here.
Steel profiles for many different purposes
Steel profiles are a general term for various steel products that are either rolled or bent to create a continuous profile, giving steel profiles particular strength to resist weight or pressure from the side or above.
Together with U-profiles, C-profiles are the most common types of steel profiles, except for the thinner steel profiles used for constructing drywall or ceilings. The type of C-profile you find here is much stronger and has a much higher load-bearing capacity than the steel profiles used for drywall and ceilings.
C-profiles are used for a variety of purposes, including chain guiding, plastic rails, and sliding tracks. They can be used as guide rails for welding or grinding curtains or for homemade sliding doors or gates, where strong guidance is needed.
They are also used for various building purposes, such as exterior walls, frames for windows, doors, and gates, floor separations, small bridges, and much more.
If the steel profiles are to be used outdoors, they should be surface treated with paint, or alternatively, a stainless steel profile can be used, as it can withstand exposure to rain, moisture, and cold without rusting.
Find galvanized U-steel profiles in our range
U-shaped steel is also available in a galvanized version. Here, the steel profile is treated with galvanization, where the steel is immersed in zinc heated to 460 degrees Celsius. This creates a thin coating of zinc that protects the steel from rust or corrosion. If you need U-profiles for outdoor use and want to ensure that they maintain their strength and a nice surface without rust, you should choose galvanized profile steel for your construction project.
What is the difference between hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel?
When steel is produced, it is first cast into thick plates, which are then used for further processing. While these plates are still hot, they are passed through steel rollers, which are large cylinders that roll the hot steel out into thinner plates or coils, which are a long, rolled-up steel sheet. The yield from processing the hot plates is called hot-rolled steel, and the term refers to the steel's temperature when it is pressed through the rollers to achieve the desired thickness.
Similarly, cold-rolled steel gets its name from being rolled under cold conditions. Cold-rolled steel is made from steel that has initially been hot-rolled to a certain thickness but has subsequently been cleaned and further rolled to a thinner dimension. Cold-rolled steel provides finer tolerances in size and straightness as well as a neater surface, because the steel does not change temperature after rolling. Since cold-rolled steel requires more processing than hot-rolled steel, cold-rolled steel is typically also more expensive.
Both hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel are generally suitable for the same purposes and should both be surface treated with, for example, paint if used outdoors. The main difference lies in the surface finish, which is finer on cold-rolled steel, and the tolerances of the steel dimensions, which are more precise on cold-rolled steel.
