The Danish wholesale company Sanistål has reduced its CO2e emissions by one third in just two years. Now, Sanistål is raising its climate ambitions even further, as stated in the company's 2022 sustainability report, which has just been released.
According to the report, Sanistål has successfully reduced the company's CO2e emissions by 26% from 2020 to 2022 through concrete initiatives. This puts the company on track to meet its ambitious 2030 goal.
“Sustainability is an important part of the foundation of our Accelerate strategy, which guides everything we do at Sanistål. We are actively working to reduce our climate footprint, and we have a stated goal that our operations must be completely CO2e-neutral by 2030,” says Claudio Christensen, who is the CEO of Sanistål and country manager at Ahlsell Denmark.
Sanistål became part of the Ahlsell Group in December and, in collaboration with its new owner, will ramp up its sustainability ambitions as early as 2023.
“With our new owner comes an even stronger focus on sustainability, and this means that we will commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in collaboration with Ahlsell,” says Claudio Christensen. SBTi is the highest international standard for companies that set ambitions and binding targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The majority of Sanistål's CO2e emissions come from the value chain. Therefore, in 2023, the company will expand its carbon footprint accounting to also include relevant parts of Scope 3, which are not currently being measured.
So far, company cars have been the largest single source of emissions in Sanistål's climate accounts. Therefore, the company decided last year to transition its entire fleet to electric vehicles. This will take place over the next three years, ensuring that Sanistål's entire fleet will be 100% electric by the end of 2027.
In addition to reducing Sanistål's own climate impact, there is a particular focus on helping customers make responsible choices.
"We want to promote and further develop our concept solutions to an even greater extent because our warehouse solutions support more responsible consumption among our customers. The warehouse is optimized, and waste and shipping are reduced. At the same time, we have made it easy in our online store to see the environmental labels and CO2 impact of individual products. It should be easy for our customers to make more sustainable choices when purchasing goods from Sanistål," says Gitte Østergaard Futtrup, who is the sustainability manager at Sanistål and leads a new dedicated sustainability department that works across the company.
To ensure accurate climate and sustainability data, the auditing firm PWC has reviewed the ESG KPIs in Sanistål's sustainability report 2022.
